Mount Vernon First Christian Church was established in the Skagit Valley in 1891. It has always been an important mission with us to serve the needs of the people here in our community. Over the past few years, we have been aging and decreasing in numbers to the point of no longer being able to maintain our congregation or the building in the same way we have operated in the past. After the recent sale of our property and with the unanimous support of our membership, proceeds are being distributed to different organizations in the area that we have supported over the years. One such organization is Community Action of Skagit County, located here in Mount Vernon (Pictured from left to right: Beverly Madlung, Nona Carter, June Steen, and Bill Henkel). Community Action is a private, nonprofit, serving homeless and low-income families and individuals. Their mission is to help people improve their lives through education, support, and direct assistance while advocating for just and equitable communities. After receiving the check, their Executive Director, Bill Henkel commented, "Our deepest thanks to the First Christian Church in Mount Vernon for their generous donation! It was a heartwarming reception and we are so humbled by your generosity and kindness.”

Other organizations receiving donations include Skagit Valley Friendship House, Family Promise of Skagit Valley, Skagit Valley Neighbors in Need, Skagit Preschool and Resource Center (SPARC), Oasis Teen Shelter of the Skagit Valley Family YMCA, and Immigrant Resources and Immediate Support (IRIS). In addition, donations were made to benefit the ministries of the Northern Lights Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and the Christian Church Foundation.

Mount Vernon First Christian Church continues to worship every Sunday at 10:30 AM on Zoom. Contact one of our pastors (disciples.mvfcc@gmail.com) if you would like to attend.
